Oyuu Tells P1 Teachers Not to Teach in JSS Unless Deployed and Rewarded by TSC
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has asked primary school teachers not to teach anything in Junior Secondary Schools (JSSs) until they receive deployment letters from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
In a communiqué signed by Secretary General Collins Oyuu, the union noted that teachers in several regions in the country had been forcefully allocated JSS subjects to teach without proper guidelines from the commission.
“We are saddened by the cry of our members, who are P1 teachers, saying that they are forced to have lessons in junior secondary schools. We need clear guidelines on how the teachers will be rewarded for the extra work they will perform,” read a part of the memo.
The memo, copied to all branch chairmen, executive secretaries and members further directed branch officials to report cases of schools forcing teaches on the matter.
