Raise School Fees, KUPPET Tells Ministry
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has urged the ministry to reinstate school fees which was reduced during the covid-19 pandemic.
According to KUPPET secretary general Akello Misori, a majority of boarding schools are currently struggling to deal with tough economic times.
In July 2021, Magoha announced a reduction in secondary school fees, arguing that the 2021 school calendar was short.
National schools now pay Sh8,500 less while Extra-County and County schools pay Sh5,500 less.
The directive meant National Schools would pay Sh45,054 while the Extra County and County schools pay Sh35,035.
“Prices of cereals, other foodstuffs and essentials like cooking oil have more than doubled over the last years alone,” Misori said.

He urged the government to come in and rescue, especially boarding schools which have to provide accommodation and meals in schools.
Misori noted that the increased price of commodities is affecting even boarding school management.
“In light of current economic conditions, the government must urgently provide new guidelines on school fees to avoid any misunderstanding between stakeholders in education,” he added.
