The Commission advised employees to regularly update the next of kin form, dependants and contact details.

Where there are two or more wives, all of them should fill the forms unless they agree to nominate one of them as their legal representative. Such an agreement must be in writing and signed by each of them.

Where the teacher and the spouse are both deceased, the children should nominate one of them to be paid on their behalf and ensure they have a written agreement signed by all and witnessed by the area chief.

The Commission also encourages the next of kin of deceased teachers to seek assistance from human resource officers at TSC county and sub-county offices when filling and submitting the documents required for processing the claims.

TSC only processes the claim then presents it to the National Treasury for payment. According to the Pensions Act (Cap.189), the benefit is a lump sum (one off) amount payable to the legal representative or dependents of a teacher who dies while serving on permanent and pensionable terms of service. The amount payable is equivalent to two years’ salary, calculated on the pay at the time of death.

Mandatory documents required are declaration forms, and Widows and Children’s Pension Scheme (GP 215) form the widow/widower declaration form is filled by a husband/wife whose spouse has passed away, while the Dependants’ Declaration form is filled by children where both parents are deceased or the deceased parent was not married, or by a parent, sibling, or other guardian in case of a deceased teacher who was not married and had no children.

The GP 215 Form is filled, together with the dependants’ declaration form, by a parent, sibling, or other guardian in the case of a male deceased teacher who was not married and had no children.

Mount kenya University, MKU, is one of the four institutions approved by the teachers’ service commission to be service providers for the teacher professional development modules. Other institutions are Kenyatta university, Riara university and KEMI, with TSC committing to contract more institutions after one year.

Each institution has its own procedure for enrolment.

1. Primary Teacher II T-Scale 5 and Primary Teacher I T-Scale 6 for Primary Teachers Education Certificate holders;
   ii. Secondary Teacher III / Lecturer III T-Scale 6 and Secondary Teacher II /Lecturer II T-Scale 7 for Diploma holders; and
   iii. Secondary Teacher II/Lecturer II T-Scale 7 (K) and Secondary Teacher I/Lecturer I T scale 8 (L) for holders of Bachelor of Education or its equivalent.

To be considered for common cadre promotion, a teacher must fill the ‘PERFORMANCE REPORT ON A TEACHER FOR ASSESSMENT ON SUITABILITY FOR PROMOTION/ APPOINTMENT TO THE NEXT GRADE ‘form. Some of the details to be filled by the teacher include:

i). Name of teacher
ii). Current grade/ Job group
iii). Current teaching institution/ station
iv). Duties executed by the teacher; currently.
v). TSC Number
vi). Appointment date

The head of institution is then expected to give a report on the teacher i.e: Knowledge of the job & performance, ability to coach students & participate in Co- curricular activities, acceptance of responsibilities, General conduct and suitability for promotion. The duly filled form is then sent to the Commission headquarter for action.

Here are the details and joining instructions found on form one 2022 admission letter

1. Details and the the logo of the secondary school the student has been admitted to.
2. Name of the student and a congratulatory message for securing admission.
3. A section where the student will take the letter to primary school for endorsement from the Primary headteacher. No that the headteacher must embed a signature and official rubber stamp of the school.
4. The letter will also indicate the reporting date for the student. The student will be expected to arrive at the school during working hours between 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. on the first day of reporting.   It will be inconvenient for you to arrive outside these hours or during weekends as there would not be personnel to attend to you. When reporting for admission, you must bring with you:

•  A letter of introduction from either the Chief of your area, the pastor or    the Father-in-Charge of your Parish / Mission.
• A letter of introduction from your Primary School Headteacher.
• A certified copy of your result slip for K. C. P. E. Examination.
• A certified copy of your BIRTH CERTIFICATE or document to prove your date of birth.
• Two Passport Size Photos.
• Photocopy of the I.D.s’ of parent(s) / guardian.
• A medical certificate (Fill in the provided medical form MHS/A/3)

 BOOKS & OTHER CURRICULUM MATERIALS

The official email should take the format of the teacher’s name, the last two digits of the TSC number @mwalimu.tsc.go.ke.

Email activation is a very simple task that you can do using your mobile phone.

Procedure

1. Visit the TSC Website: https://www.tsc.go.ke/
2. Go to Online services in the tabs. In the drop Drop down ,select Teachers Email activation
3. Upon clicking, you will be redirected to another page, enter your TSC number and click next.
4. Enter  your ID number and click Verify
5. Your TSC generated email and temporary password appears. Write down your official email and temporary password i.e Vaxh3114 some where. Alternatively, you can copy them separately.
6. Click  on the office.com just in the same window to go to the next site. Pick ‘another account’ will appear. Click on ‘use another account’ then provide your email that you had recorded/copied and click next.
7. A page that requires you to ‘Update your password’ will appear .You will be required to fill a current password, New Password and confirm New password. Enter the earlier recorded password as current password then choose a new password. Note that if you choose a commonly used password it will be rejected and you will be directed to choose a harder one or one that has never been used with at least a number, uppercase letter, lowercase, and a special character. Confirm the new password and sign in.
8. Once you have signed in, a page that requires you to add more information will appear. Once this page appears click next.
9. Click on the dropdown arrow and select your country as Kenya. Enter your number, then click on next.
10. Enter the 6 digit code that will be sent to the phone number you provided for verification, then click on next. A message that says ‘Well done. You have successfully set up your security info. Choose “Done” to continue signing’ will appear on the screen. Click on DONE.
