Juliana Cherera: An ECDE Teacher Who Defied Odds To Become IEBC Commissioner

Juliana Cherera is the current vice chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

From 2018 when Connie Maina resigned from the commission, IEBC operated without a vice chairperson Juliana Cherera was elected through a meeting at the IEBC boardroom.

Juliana Cherera has accumulated more than 18 years’ experience in the public sector, dealing with Education and Management. Juliana Cherera has also worked as the CEO of the strategic Delivery Unit at the Mombasa County government.

After the announcement of the disputed 2022 presidential election results August 15, Four IEBC commissioners, led by the vice chairperson Juliana Cherera called a press conference at the Serena Hotel and disowned the presidential results, which declared UDA’s William Samoei Ruto of UDA the fifth president of the republic of Kenya.

Juliana Cherera and the four maintained that they aren’t part of the results of the final phase of tallying since ‘opaqueness’ was noted in the electoral process.
