KNUT asks Parliament to Give TSC More Funds
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has challenged legislators to increase the budget allocation for Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to fund employment of more teachers. Speaking in Rodi Kopany in Homabay County after meeting Union officials, KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu noted that the legislators should prioritize increasing budget allocation to the teacher’s employer to help address the issue of teacher shortage across the country. “It is important for our leaders to give maximum financial support to our employer to enable it to employ more teachers to facilitate the success of the Competency-Based Curriculum,”said Oyuu.

Oyuu said CBC will be successful only if all education stakeholders play their role responsibly; adding that transition to 8.4.4 had not been easy. He applauded teachers for exercising a high level of discipline during recent Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) exams and learners for not taking part in any exam irregularity.
