KUPPET Disagrees with Ruto’s Taskforce, Insists Primary Schools Can’t Host Junior Secondary

KUPPET Urges Ruto to Intervene on Illegal Dishing of TSC Employment Letters

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Nakuru branch Executive Secretary has called on President William Ruto to warn Cabinet Secretaries (CSs), state officers and politicians to stop interfering with the duties of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Speaking in his Nakuru City office, Duncan Macharia noted that government officials have been dishing out employment letters to teachers in political and social functions.

He castigated the act and stressed that it is only the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) that has the constitutional mandate to employ and recruit teachers.

“We urge politicians and government officials to stop performing TSC duties or they should resign and apply for jobs as Commission staff,”he said.

Macharia said that just like any other independent Commission, the TSC should be respected and left to perform its duties with integrity and fairness.

“If a State officer can dish out employment letters in burial ceremonies in their villages, how do you expect TSC officers at the TSC headquarters to perform their duties independently,” he said.

The KUPPET boss also urged the Commission to exercise fairness during promotions to ensure qualified teachers are prioritized, adding that many teachers have stagnated in one Job Group for years.

“As KUPPET Nakuru, we request TSC to conduct promotions with transparency and ensure that stagnated teachers are promoted,”he said.

He added:“We have witnessed TSC advertising for interviews on the same Job Group three times in a row without releasing the results. This has led to frustration for many teachers.”
