Macharia: Public, Private school teachers to Be Trained on Grade 7, 8 roll-out in April
The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has said that private school teachers will be among the 60,000 tutors to be trained on Grade 7 and Grade 8 roll-out in April.
Macharia said the Commission has thus far trained 229,292 teachers on CBC.
She made the remarks at the KNEC Headquarters in Nairobi on Monday, March 28 during the release of the 2021 KCPE results.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha revealed that 320 KCPE candidates out of the 1,214,031 learners were caught cheating, and that seven examination administrators have been implicated. He asked Macharia to ensure the seven teachers are investigated and arraigned.
In her speech, Macharia said: “The TSC will act firmly and expeditiously on teachers found guilty of aiding in examination irregularities. We won’t allow a few teachers to mar the good name of the teaching service.”
On great-performing teachers, the TSC boss said they will be rewarded.
“During the 2020 examinations, 20 teachers were rewarded for standing out in various aspects of administering the KCPE and KCSE exams. Some received rewards and recognition from the president,” said Macharia.
The TSC chief said the Commission is seeking to hire 5,000 more teachers to help reduce a deficit of 114,581 teachers in both primary and secondary schools.
Macharia said the deficit has been occasioned by the 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary.
