Magoha Settles On January 4th Reopening as TSC Tells Aged Teachers To Remain Home

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced January 4th 2021 as the full reopening date for all schools. These dates will apply to all continuing PP1 & 2; Grade 1, 2 and 3; Class 5, 6 and 7; and Form 1, 2 and 3 learners, who will be resuming for their term 2. The learners will close on March 19th 2021, alongside the Grade 4, Class 8 and Form 4 learners.

The CS said the all learners will at the end of term two proceed for a 7-week holiday, except Class 8 and Form 4 candidates, who will be preparing to sit their KCPE and KCSE exams respectively. This will create ample time for administration and marking of KCPE and KCSE examinations.

Schools will then reopen in May 2012 for term three. However, current grade 4 and class eight learners (incoming form ones), will stay at home during term three.

Magoha said that Grade 4 CBC learners will transit to Grade 5 in July 2021, when schools will resume for term one, in a fresh academic calendar.

International schools will not be spared in the January 4th 2021 reopening date, for all learners currently at home.

“I wish to assure the country that the Government is determined to ensure a safe reopening and learning of our schools. In doing so, we are drawing important lessons from the partial reopening that has taken place since October,” said the CS.

“We are confident that we will remain on the right trajectory to finding the winning formula that will ensure our learning institutions are safe for our learners and teachers,” he added.

Teachers service commission CEO, Nancy Macharia, urged all teachers aged 58 years and above to stay at home.”As this is a Presidential directive, your employers will not sack you. TSC has negotiated for teachers to be covered for Covid-19 related illnesses,” Macharia assured the aged teachers.

The aged teachers were advice by Macharia to concentrate on paperwork as those in school work on teaching and learning.
