Over 10,000 ECDE Teachers Receive Appointment Letters on PnP Terms
Several counties among the 47 counties have embarked on a mission to recognize and employ early childhood development education,(ECDE) teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. With most of them dancing to the tune, Kiambu County is the latest to have joined in the song.
Kiambu county has awarded over 1200 ECDE teachers letters of appointment on permanent and pensionable terms.
The auspicious ceremony was presided over by Governor James Ongwae at Kiambu county headquarters. Among the leaders who attended are; chairman of the county public service board Allan Mwaura, county board secretary martin Njeri, education CECM Margaret Ruinge, education chief officer George Thuku.
One of the teachers who received the appointment letters said that the letters will inspire and motivate not only the teachers who received them but also the unemployed and potential ECDE teachers.
“As ECDE teachers, we pledge to give our very best in propelling the county forward. It is primarily through us that we can make vision 2030 a reality. We promise to be 100% competency based curriculum compliant so that we can equip learners with competencies necessary in coping with the new demands,” reacted one of the teachers.
Nyoro, has absorbing ECDE teachers for the first time since devolution, said that this is just the beginning of his journey of appreciating ECDE teachers and they should expect more of such appointments in future, with better packages.
“Your appointment is only the beginning. We are going to look into your welfare. In the next budget, the teachers will get NHIF covers as now you are Kiambu county government workers,” he said.
Majority of governors have adopted the formula of employing ECDE teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.
