School Inspections to Intensify as Education Directors Get New Patrol Vehicles
County and subcounty directors of education are set to get new vehicles to aid in inspecting schools, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has said.
Speaking during the ongoing Senate proceedings on Wednesday, Machogu said lack of vehicles is the main challenge education officers face while enforcing safety measures and guidelines across schools within their jurisdiction.
“With effect from this year we’re giving each one of them a vehicle so that they can effectively inspect school around them,” he said.
He was responding to a question from Marsabit Senator Chute Mohamed who had inquired about the measures the ministry has put in place to prevent tragedies such as the Mukumu Girls High School incident that claimed several lives.

“I’ve had the CS talking about issues of one school only. I’d like for him to shed light on what measures he has put in place to ensure that all schools are in good shape to prevent another similar Mukumu Girls’ tragedy from occurring,” Chute posed.
In his response, Machogu quoted the Safety Standards Manual for Schools in Kenya which he said the ministry will use to ensure the safety of students.
“The manual provides guidelines to ensure safety and health conditions in the school environment,” he stated.
