Tana River KMTC Branch was established in the year 2016, under sponsorship from the county government of Tana river. The main objective of setting up the campus was to fill the gap of skilled health care persons in the country.

The pioneer course at Tana River KMTC Branch was a certificate course in health records and information technology which had a pioneer cohort of less than 20 students.

Tana River KMTC Branch has experienced gradual growth in infrastructure and academics since its inception in 2016.
