Ongoing Talks Between SRC and TSC Over 2021-2025 CBA Near a Conclusion

TSC to Proceed with Interviews for diploma teachers as planned

The teachers’ service commission, TSC, has maintained that it will proceed with interviews for diploma teachers as it had earlier on planned. The interviews for diploma teachers had been scheduled between 26th – 27th April 2021. A good number of teachers however found these dates inconveniencing since during the said dates, they will be marking the just completed Kenya Certificate of secondary education exams, which have just ended. KCSE marking began on Wednesday 21st April 2021, and examiners of some elective papers are yet to arrive at their marking centres. The marking exercise is expected to end in two week’s time and the examiners are expected to stay in the marking centres till the end of marking unless they have a compelling reason.

With KCSE to mark and promotional interviews to attend, the affected teachers are in a dilemma since both exercises are important. Kenya union of post primary education teachers, KUPPET, has urged TSC to reschedule the interview dates for the diploma teachers but it seems like the latter has declined to heed to their calls. KUPPET has even rolled a form, which is circulating in social media, to collect the data of teachers who will be attending the interviews for diploma teachers. KUPPET wants to know the exact number of members who will be attending the interviews so that it gets a ground of argument as to whether the interviews should be there or not.

As things stand, the interviews will proceed as scheduled. A number of teachers from various counties have already received their invitation letters, informing them to attend the interviews on either of the two scheduled dates, and the venues for the interviews. The letters are sent through the principals or the TSC sub county directors. Invited candidates who will be attending can prepare for the panel questions by clicking here.

Those who will emerge successful from the planned interviews will be promoted to job group C3. Most of the teachers are currrently at job group C1 or C2,  (click here to see what they earn). In case they get promoted after the interviews, the salaries will change ( click here to see their new salaries).
