Relief For Unemployed P1 Teachers as TSC Plans to Recruit 30,000 Teachers to Junior Secondary

Teachers Service Commission will now hire additional teachers to primary schools. It has been confirmed that the 30,000 new teachers will all be deployed to primary schools to handle junior secondary classes, which will now be domiciled in primary schools.

The Presidential Working Party on Education Reform has directed the hiring of additional 30,000 teachers for the junior secondary category.

This is because the learners will be domiciled in primary schools and not secondary school.

According to sources, P1 teachers with higher qualifications will be deployed to secondary schools. Additionally, during recruitment of the 30,000, p1 teachers that took the upgrading diploma with be granted priorities over those who ignored it.

“MOE, KICD and TSC will work on modalities of fast-tracking retooling teachers to ensure the country has sufficient numbers who are compliant with CBC,” the report reads.

The team led by chairman Raphael Munavu also added that priority should be given to Grade 7 teachers during the hiring.

“Government will recruit an additional 30,000 teachers by January 2023 to facilitate the transition and bridge the teacher shortage” the report reads.

The working party has up to March 2023 tosubmit the final report.
