The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results are set to be released today, following the return of President William Ruto from an overseas trip.

Education Cabinet Secretary and the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) have finalized plans to present and brief the President concerning the results before availing them to the public.

Some education officials have confirmed that they had been informed to be “on stand-by” since they might be invited to attend the release ceremony at the New Mitihani House.

This will be the second-last results of the KCPE examinations before the 8-4-4 system of education is completely phased out of the primary school curriculum next year.

It will be the first KCPE examination release for Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

All Set For Release of 2022 KCPE Results

It will also be the first time the results will be released from the new Knec headquarters which took more than 35 years to complete.

The release of the results is expected to be followed by Form One selection, probably after Christmas in order to give parents time to prepare their children before schools open on January 23.

Some 1,244,188 candidates were registered for the examination, which was administered from November 28 to 30. However, some candidates missed the test due to various reasons.

As the KCPE exams candidates eagerly await their results, their counterparts in Grade 6 who sat the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) have no such anxiety.

This is after the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms recommended that the assessment should not be used for placement to junior secondary school, thereby taking away the high stakes commonly associated with national exams. The learners will further transition to JSS in their current primary schools.

All is set for release of results for the 1.2 million Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination in December 2022. The 1.2 million Grade Six learners who sat the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will however know their results next month, since their grading will no longer be required for Junior Secondary School (JSS) placement as previously anticipated.

The KCPE results will be released immediately after they are presented to president Ruto, who is expected to jet in the country today.

Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu assured measures were put in place to ensure there was no cheating while the exams were written about two weeks ago.

“We will announce the KCPE exam results next week and there will not be any cases of cheating under the leadership of Machogu. KCPE grading is progressing well and the results will not be riddled with any irregularities,” Machogu who spoke from Kisii said. The CS assured of an accountable process, free from any form of irregularities.

“We have put the necessary measures in place and I assure you there will be no cheating because this time, we have personal accountability at an individual level from the centre manager to the security personnel, supervisors and invigilators who will make sure there will be no cheating of any kind,” said Machogu.

The Government said KPSEA will not be used for placement in JSS, which have now been domiciled in existing primary schools. Instead, the assessment will instead be used to monitor learning progress and provide feedback to education sector players on areas that require intervention. The decision is in accordance with the interim report by the presidential working group on education reforms.

KCPE marking uses personalized Optical Marker Readers (OMR) to facilitate machine reading, where the answer sheets are personalised to know which belongs to a specific candidate. Only English Composition and Kiswahili Insha is marked manually.

Results for the more than one million candidates, who sat the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination in March 2022 will be released today.

According to Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha script marking was complete by last week. He even went ahead and hinted at the release of results today or tomorrow.

‘‘In terms of KCPE, I think we can more or less work with Monday or Tuesday according to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s diary,’’ said Magoha last week.

By last evening, all indications pointed at today’s release with inside sources confirming that all plans were complete.

“On marking of exams, it is already done and we are just doing a few things here and there to ensure that there are no gaps,” Prof Magoha said last week.

Sources who sought anonymity have confirmed that most of the candidates passed English.

Normally, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) board meets to ratify results ahead of their mandatory briefing to the Head of State.

Magoha said the results would be released depending on President Kenyatta’s diary.

In previous years, Education chiefs and Council staff secured appointments to meet and brief President Kenyatta, on the morning of the day of release of results.

The release of results gives way to the scheduled transition to Grade Six by the pioneer Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) class.

Grade six transition will be happening in April and the pupils will sit for the end of primary education examinations in December. They will transition to Junior Secondary Schools next year when the normal school calendar resumes.
